Kosygin, Alexei Nikolaievich 1904 - 1980. Soviet politician. Prime minister 1964-80. He was elected to the Supreme Soviet 1938, became a member of the Politburo 1946, deputy prime minister 1960, and succeeded Khrushchev as premier (while Brezhnev succeeded him as party secretary). In the late 1960s Kosygin's influence declined.
